One minute Nick was skiing in the Alps-and now he is lost in the frozen world of Celest. He thinks his only problem is finding a way home, but he comes to realize in this strange place that when the thaw arrives, beasts known as the pina will wake.
Nick's disorientation in the parallel realm is the least of his concerns. When Nick is captured and trapped in a horrifying pina nest, he will learn the truth of these frightening creatures. Together with his new enigmatic friend Sim and two other humans who stumbled into Celest, Nick struggles to get home. But when they discover that multiple portals exist between Celest and Earth, they must find a way to close them before the pina slip through.
Can he and the others escape? How far will they go to outrun these body thieves and a fate worse than death?
